#reimagine: an online journey of creative adaptation
With the coronavirus lockdown in place across Lebanon, we found our life on hold and our projects postponed. And we were not alone in this.
As our team members turned to each other for support during our virtual meetings, it occurred to us: as movers and dancers, we’re trained to think on our feet and to work with change.
Being a movement-based entity, we paused for a moment and exclaimed: the essence of all movement is change!

Context is something we consider upfront in the work we do, and it seemed like there was an ocean of tiny opportunities at the quarantine table. Change was at our doorsteps and for once we had a different kind of time! Time to reflect and imagine. Time to do things a little differently. And through the little things we were doing individually to adapt, we remembered our body working quietly in the background: engaging, sensing, processing… and adapting. It became abundantly clear: our brain, our body and our environment are inseparable. What happens to one, happens to the other two.
With that in mind, we went to the drawing board and turned to our skills to see how we can contribute.
Essentially, we wanted to support and inspire each other, and do our best in an otherwise daunting situation. We felt we were being given a blank canvas, where neither the present nor the future were clear. And the only way we could deal with all the uncertainty was to do what we know best: tap into the creative and innate power of our body, and move.
In our own way, we were getting ready to collectively (RE)imagine the present and the future, and we boiled it down to this:
Change is Movement. Movement is Change. Imagination is Key.
With that our online project #reimagine was born.
#reimagine project is made up of 2 phases:
Each serving a different purpose and sparking people’s imagination on different issues arising from the coronavirus context. The first phase revolves around the present moment and the second takes us into the future.
Together, they aim to create a space for artists, dancers, writers, and other creative professionals to collaborate and create tidbits of online content that can move people in one way or another during this lockdown.
To amuse and inspire one another we created and shared a series of animated videos - based on real stories by real people - reimagining the present a little differently. These personal reflections on our habits, coping mechanisms and survival skills are windows of playfulness, and opportunities to be inventive in difficult times. Take a look!
Through a docuseries of home-based short films - Glimpses of a Future - we are sharing visions of a future (re)imagined together by creative writers and creative movers. From mind to body, from words to movement, from visualization to embodiment, multiple artforms bring us one step closer and reconcile us with a new reality that may very well be on its way.
